In this book the main character is Katniss Everdeen, she is a 16-year- old girl from District 12. She lives with her mother and her younger sister. Katniss has long straight sleek black hair, olive skin and gray eyes. Katniss is a hunter, she hunts with Gale. Her weapons are knife, bow and arrows. She became a good hunter and she sells some illegal food at The Hob, the local Black Market.
She lives in a futuristic world, called Panem. There are thirteen districts in Panem and districts ruled by place called Capitol. There were rebel in District Thirteen but eventually, the Capitol stopped the rebellion and District Thirteen was destroyed. As punishment for the rebellion, The Capitol made a yearly competition called the Hunger Games. In this competition, one boy and one girl are selected to fight in a battle to the death and the last who survive wins and gets fame and resources for their district. Her sister, Prim, is randomly chosen for the games. Katniss volunteers to go in her sister’s place. (This is what I’ve read and this is her situation)
Katniss is often quiet and polite in public and people in District 12 like her. Katniss is an excellent hunter, archer, gatherer, and trapper, skilled just like her father. Unfortunately her father died in a mine explosion when Katniss was eleven years old. Katniss has been the sole provider for her family. She hunts for foods so her family can survive.
Katniss really likes her sister so she volunteered for the Hunger games because she didn’t want her sister goes to the Hunger games. Katniss has a hunting partner, his name is Gale. Katniss describes herself as similar in appearance to Gale, with the same black hair, grey eyes and olive skin. Katniss has a friend name Peeta Mellark he is described as medium height, stocky build and has ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead with blue eyes. He is baker’s son and he is also talented in backing breads, cakes and ice cakes. He goes to the Hunger games with Katniss and he likes Katniss (Katniss also likes him.)
